Dear Industry Partner,

With both the provincial and federal elections now complete, TIANS continues to steadfastly work on behalf of the Tourism Industry to keep the needs of the sector at the forefront with elected representatives and senior government officials.

We were encouraged to see tourism-specific pledges in a number of party platforms during their respective campaigns.  Looking ahead, TIANS will continue working with our national partners on targeted support for the hardest hit; and the implementation of progressive strategies to address such issues as the labour shortage and traveler confidence. On the provincial front, the administration of tourism is shifting back into government with the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage.  As many of you are aware, we have been a strong proponent of a model for Tourism which would have Industry leading the strategic direction of the sector.  TIANS has been in touch with Minister Dunn and his team and we look forward to a productive and collaborative relationship with the new government.

TIANS 2021 Virtual AGM will be held on October 6th at 10m.  We are pleased to announce we will be joined by the Honourable Tim Houston. Premier Houston will provide Opening Remarks in advance of the business meeting.  We encourage TIANS Members to register in advance – click here for additional details.

As the province enters a modified Phase 5 of reopening and Proof of Vaccines (POV) becomes a standard for a number of activities, we continue to receive inquiries from Industry around process and best practices for visitors as well as staff.  We have shared a number of tools on the Tourism Strong digital hub to assist operators.  TIANS recently hosted a Legal Insight Webinar on September 21st  providing answers to a number of questions linked to POV which is available on our YouTube channel.  Additional information will be shared, as it becomes available, be sure to utilize the Tourism Reactivation for Industry (TRI) program to access expertise focused on this issue as well as other reopening supports. Information and inquiry forms are also available on Tourism Strong.

As we reopen and welcome visitors back into our communities, it has never been more important to ensure we are focused on quality and showcasing the best Nova Scotia has to offer. Over the past several weeks, TIANS has coordinated restoration efforts for the Lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove. In partnership with the Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Develop Nova Scotia, this unique project is completely volunteer driven by the painters – who give generously of their time, skills and materials.  2021 marks the 4th time this work has been undertaken by the union and TIANS is deeply humbled by their commitment to bettering the community and inspiring pride in one of our most recognized and visited icons.

As we continue to rebuild and reshape the Tourism Sector in Nova Scotia, please remember TIANS is here for you.  Please contact our helpdesk for any assistance you may need as we move forward with broad re-opening. 902.423.4480 or tians@tians.ca.  Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment.

Stay Well.  Stay Tourism Strong.

The TIANS Team
