Businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to receive financial support with the second transfer of funds to the Nova Scotia COVID-19 Response Council (NSCRC) as part of a contribution agreement with Dalhousie University.  Nova Scotia is adding another $50-million, for a total of $100-million.

The Nova Scotia COVID-19 Response Council will continue to develop programs to support Nova Scotians and businesses, complementing federal programming and addressing any gaps.  Government will recommend the Nova Scotia COVID-19 Response Council consider programming for tourism anchor businesses with large workforces, which keep the industry thriving.

The initial $50-million commitment was made in March 2020, with a focus to support those businesses required to close because of public health orders.  To date, $45-million of the initial $50-million contribution has been spent or committed on previously announced programs that included income replacement, loans and reopening support for small businesses, breakfast programs for kids, and supports for unemployed individuals who may not have qualified for the CERB. 

The NSCRC includes Dalhousie University’s President, VP Academic and Provost, and VP Finance and Administration and oversees the use of these funds.  An Advisory Secretariat consisting of the Deputy Ministers of Business, Labour and Advanced Education, Finance and Treasury Board, and Community Services provides policy support and advises the NSCRC with respect to the use of the fund
